Rountree’s Happy Homes is a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide children, youth, and families a safe, caring atmosphere where hurts are healed, hope is nurtured, and self-love is developed.
As a new and developing nonprofit organization, Rountree’s Happy Homes aims to open multiple foster care homes for children in Dallas County, Texas. The organization opened its first home in Desoto, TX, a suburb of Dallas. Ideally, each house that Rountree’s Happy Homes opens will have at least four bedrooms and provide housing for at least seven children between the ages of 13 and 17 years old. These are the minimum requirements to qualify for a 24-hour General Residential Operation in Texas.6 Once operational,
Rountree’s Happy Homes intends to partner with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS). DFPS will refer children to Rountree’s Happy Homes for care through their partnership. In addition to offering shelter to at-risk youth, Rountree’s Happy Homes will provide additional wrap-around services to the residents in its care. These include vocational training, independent living preparation, resume-building guidance, parenting classes, and life skills education. Each location for Rountree’s Happy Homes will include three full-time staff members to ensure 24-hour support for all children under the organization’s care.
